- Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur
The Mehrangarh Fort ("Majestic Fort") is located on the hilltop that rises sharply at the city of Jodhpur.
With its 68 ft wide and 117 ft high walls soaring 400 ft above the
city the fort dominates the surrounding plains and appears very
majestic and impregnable. The Mehrangarh Fort was founded by Rao
Jodha in 1459 when he shifted his capital from Mandore.
- Jaisalmer Fort Jaisalmer
Deep in the heart of the Thar Desert is Jaisalmer, one of the last princely bastions in the region.
Founded on what was the cross - road of lucrative trade routes, this
remote settlement came to be celebrated for the valour of its rulers, and for the aesthetic sense represented by their palaces and havelis.
- Chittaurgarh Fort Chittaurgarh
The massive Chittaurgarh fort is one such example which was built by the later Maurya rulers in the
seventh century AD and is perched at the a height of 180 m over a
hill top. The sprawling fort has several gates out of which the main
ones are Padal Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol and Ram Pol. The fort
is a standing reminder of the courage that the Rajput rulers exuded
at a time when a foreign power threatened to wipe out their very
existence. The fort also houses many temples, palaces, gardens and
Kunds (water tanks).
- Junagarh Fort, Bikaner
Junagarh Fort of Bikaner was built by Raja Rai Singh, one of the most able and trusted generals of Akbar,
in 1587. The fort is surrounded by a high wall and deep moats. There are 37 bastions guarding the fort with only two gates as the entrance pathway to the fort, the main one being the Suraj Pol or
the Sun Gate.
- Lalgarh Fort, Bikaner
This grand palace is an architectural masterwork in red sandstone, and was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh
Ji in the memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singh Ji in 1902. Sir
Swinton Jacob designed this oriental fantasy. This architecture is a
fusion of Rajput, Mughal and European architecture. The exterior
contrasts dramatically with the oriental interiors and amenities.
- Ajit Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur

- Neemrana Fort, Alwar
Built since 1464 AD, Neemrana Fort Palace is India's oldest heritage resort. It is also Rajasthan's closest
palace from New Delhi, situated at 122 kms. on the Delhi-Jaipur
highway - only 100 kms from Delhi's international airport.
- Amer Fort Jaipur
The
Amber Fort was built in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh. The
construction of the Amber Fort was started by Man Singh I in 1592
and completed by his descendant Jai Singh I. The Amber Fort is built
in red sandstone and white marble. The palace complex has very
interesting apartments, the likes of which are not to be found
anywhere else in India, leave aside Jaipur.
- Taragarh Fort
Located
at a distance of around 39 km off Kota, Taragarh Fort was the home
of a major princely state at the height of the Rajput heydays. It is
a massive fort built in the year 1354 and accessible by a steep
pitched road leading to its main gateway.
- Gwalior Fort
The
Gwalior fort, situated at Gopachal, almost 100m above the town of
Gwalior, was built by Raja Man Singh Tomar in the 15th century. It's
width is not more than 1km and the walls, encircling the fort, are
solid and about 10m high. It covers an area of 3 sq. kms and
consists three temples, six palaces and a number of water tanks.
- Jhansi Fort
Built
by Raja Vir Singh Judeo in 1613, the Jhansi Fort played a major role
during the first war of Indian Independence. The huge fort is built
on a hilltop called Bangra. The Fort is an architectural delight to
eyes, due to its size and beauty. The fort was a residence of Rani
Laxmibai of Jhansi, who fought British army and attained martyrdom.
